Lady Slipper Studio and Farm

Lady Slipper Studio and Farm has existed since the early 1980’s when classes were first offered in decorative painting. Lady Slipper Studio and Farm has evolved over the years as new interests and  skills were acquired .

Lady Slipper Studio and Farm focuses on the fiber arts, primarily working with sheep’s wool. “We participate in aspects of wool handling: raising and showing the animals, shearing the sheep, washing and dyeing the wool, carding or combing and spinning the wool, and finally knitting or weaving the yarns into a finished product that Iare often entered in competitions, fairs, and festivals. Many handmade goods are available for purchase.

In May of 2009, I was accepted into the newly formed organization of Appilachian artisans allowed to sell goods on the Builtmore Estate.

"I can go from the sheep’s back to my back.”

The Farm came into existence when our family retired in 2003, we built our house in 2004, and bought our first four sheep in 2004. The land where Lady Slipper and Studio and farm resides, has been in the family since the 1960’s and was used to run cattle for years.

Lady Slipper Studio and Farm first purchased two wethered males and two ewes, with no intentions of expanding. our herd. Then, as our grand-daughter grew we and got involved in showing sheep for 4-H. Since 4-H only allows children to show females, the necessity to expand the flock of females arose. On first breeding, we had all males and purchased two more registered females. As the need for more sheep has arisen with the addition of more grandchildren, we are now in the planning stages of a breeding program and will be selling off some of our wethered males to make room for lambs in Spring of 2010.
